Grocery List
Estimated Cost: $65
Produce
- 3 yellow onions
- 2 heads of garlic
- small piece ginger
- 1 jalapeno
- 1 lime
- 4 large peaches
- 1 large bunch broccoli
- 1 bunch parsley
- 1 bunch cilantro
- 4 avocadoes
- 1 red onion
- 2 lbs. tomatoes
- 1 cup roasted green chilis (we bought ours at a weekend farmer’s market)
- 1 head green leaf lettuce
- 1 bunch celery
- 1 bunch carrots
Meat
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 lbs. pork (we did a cheaper cut, but pork shoulder is the ideal here)
- 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken tenderloins or breasts
Pantry
- ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 lb. whole wheat penne
- 1 can pure pumpkin puree (you do not want pumpkin pie filling)
- 1 package homemade tortillas, white or wheat
- 1 can black beans
- 1 can pinto beans (you could sub dried beans to save some cash)
- ¼ cup hot sauce
- reduced sodium soy sauce
- rice vinegar
- brown sugar
Bulk
- 3 cups cooked brown rice (that's probably about 1 ½ cups uncooked)
- ½ cup raw almonds
Dairy
- 1 cup shredded cheese (for the sandwiches: we used mozzarella because we had it. You could use blue cheese or provolone)
- ½ cup parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey jack or Colby jack
- ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
- 4 tbs. butter
Bakery
- 1 small loaf of sliced bread (I a sliced loaf of Rustic Italian Bread from Whole Foods for 99 cents)
Refrigerated
- 1 small bottle pulp-free orange juice
Grocery Notes
Make sure to check what you have on hand before you head to the grocery store! I had many of this week’s ingredients already on hand and so spent very little money on our grocery shopping this week. Here are some items that I did not need to buy because I had enough leftover from previous weeks: ginger, red onion, jalapeno, hot sauce, chicken broth, brown rice, parmesan, cheese, soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar.
Pantry Items
As always, there are several pantry items that you will need and are not on this week’s grocery list. Be sure you have the following on hand: salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, canola oil, olive oil, all-purpose flour.
