Weddings, and Anniversaries and Celebrations: Oh My!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I’ll be posting my first entry to the Food Blog Project 2010 tomorrow as part of the Week 8 grocery list, so until then I decided to share a little bit about where we were in our lives a year ago!

This weekend (Sunday, to be precise) we are celebrating our one-year wedding anniversary and I seriously can’t believe it has been a whole year! Actually, I can believe we’ve been married a year – what I am having a hard time grasping is that it has been an entire year since our wedding. (Anyone out there know the feeling??)

One year ago at this time, my husband was headed out for his bachelor party, and I was frantically scrambling to get a million things done and checked off the list. We were married at a camp tucked deep in the mountains (we met there!) and we had an entire weekend of celebration with our family and friends, which was amazing. Absolutely a dream come true. The only hard thing was that we had to bring everything down to camp with us. You name it, we brought it in. This made for crazy days (and weeks, and months) leading up to the big weekend.

In the end it was all worth it (as it always is…). Here a few photos to share our wedding with you.

Jason’s parents hosted a beautiful rehearsal dinner. Here are the gorgeous tables before it was dark, and then after dark (and after dinner) we went up to thank for our amazing friends and family for being with us. We dined on freshly grilled steaks, vegetables, tortilla soup, and jalapenos stuffed with cheese. The night ended with everyone around a campfire.

The next morning was our wedding day! We had a campfire breakfast of huevos rancheros. Don’t worry – Jason and I went at different times, so we didn’t see each other!

After breakfast, my bridesmaids and I went for a hike (to calm the nerves ๐Ÿ™‚ ), then started getting ready. My friend Marnie did my hair, and here I am doing my make-up at my outdoor make-up station that my girls set-up for me (hello, awkward mascara face in the mirror).

Everyone stayed at the camp for the weekend (it was seriously a true wedding weekend!) and I made door signs for each of their cabins with their names. Here is our cabin.

My handsome (soon-to-be) husband getting ready in his cabin.

Before we knew it, it was wedding time! My dad walked me down the aisle. And we only cried a little bit! Impressive, I know. ๐Ÿ™‚

Our beautiful wedding ceremony, with so many people whom we love. It was an absolute dream to look around and see them all there with us in this place that is so incredibly special to us. We are truly, truly blessed with amazing friends and family.

We did it! Walking back up the aisle to the tune of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Pride and Joy”.

Our wedding party. We couldn’t ask for a better group of friends!!

Our absolutely gorgeous reception. My family and friends set-up all the decorations while I was hiking with my bridesmaids. It turned out so beautiful. We ate two different meals at our reception – one from Jason and one from me. Jason’s was a grilled pork tenderloin (with his famous rub), mashed potatoes, and garlic green beans. Mine was chicken parmesan (this isn’t the same recipe we used at the reception) with spaghetti with tomato sauce and salad. They were both so good!! (We might make a little reprise of both meals on Sunday….)

Me and my mom. We were back in an outdoor pavilion for dessert and toasts. It was so cosy – there was a fire in the big fireplace, lights all around the room, and even patio heaters to keep everyone warm!

It was such a fabulous weekend and truly everything Jason and I dreamed about for our wedding. As we come upon our one-year anniversary, we remember the joy and love of that weekend and all that it symbolized for us. We are thankful to be celebrating our first year of marital bliss (and all the non-bliss, too) and look forward to many more years together.

And now for the question of the day: what are you thankful for in your life? Are you celebrating anything this weekend? Or do you have any special event memories of your own that you’d like to share? Leave a comment below!
